Affordable Divis was formed in 2015 after the re-zoning of Divisadero Street from a neighborhood commercial district to a transit-oriented corridor, which removed density requirements for housing. It is transit-oriented in name only; Divisadero and Fillmore are the only NCTs in the city that are not near a Muni, CalTrain, or BART station.
Affordable Divis soon after began its efforts to organize to demand an increase in the on-site affordable housing required for Divisadero and Fillmore in exchange for the density give-away.
